Der Glasgower Künstler David Shrigley hat für das Modelabel Pringle of Scotland bereits vor zwei Jahren ein ganz wunderbares Animationsvideo über die Herstellung von Pullovern erstellt. Sehr sehens- und hörenswert. Mit einer netten Prise britischen Humors.

Am 26. März 1874 wurde der Dichter und vierfache Pulitzer-Preisträger Robert Lee Frost in San Francisco geboren. Sein vielleicht bekanntestes Gedicht ist “The Road Not Taken“. Wer es noch nicht kennt, dem sei es hiermit wärmstens an Herz gelegt.

Auf turmsegler.de kann man zwei Übersetzungen des Gedichts ins Deutsche lesen.

Im heutigen Sheepman wird nach einem englischen Begriff gesucht, den man auf Deutsch u.a. mit “auf freiem Fuß” oder “flüchtig” übersetzen kann.

Bei der Schlammschlacht im Rennen um die republikanische Präsidentschaftskandidatur hat Newt Gingrich seinen Konkurrenten Mitt Romney auf eine ganz eigenwillige Art und Weise charakterisiert. Zum CNN-Video auf YouTube mit dem Titel “Gingrich likens Romney to Etch A Sketch” heißt es:

“Newt Gingrich compares Mitt Romney to an Etch A Sketch – saying nothing he says is permanent.”

Bei einem “Etch A Sketch” handelt es sich um eine Zaubertafel, auf der man schreiben und das Geschriebene wieder löschen kann.

Die am 20. März 1917 als Vera Margaret Welch geborene Vera Lynn ist eine englische Sängerin, die vor allem während des Zweiten Weltkriegs als “The Forces’ Sweetheart” und u.a. das Lied “We’ll meet again” berühmt und im Jahr 1975 durch Queen Elizabeth II. als Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in den britischen Adelsstand erhoben wurde.

Auf dem Pink Floyd Album “The Wall” nimmt der Song “Vera” auf Vera Lynn und ihr Lied “We’ll meet again” Bezug. Der Text lautet:
