Am 22. November 1963 wurde US-Präsident John F.Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, ermordet.

Der Regisseur, Dokumentarfilmer und Oscar-Preisträger Errol Morris hat aus diesem Anlass im November 2011 den ersten Teil einer (möglichen) Kurzfilm-Dokumentarreihe zu diesem Thema veröffentlicht.

Am 20. November 1942 wurde der bereits einen Monat zuvor fertiggestellte Alaska Highway offiziell eröffnet.

Vokabeltipp:
Das Adjektiv “contiguous” wird vom OALD definiert als “touching or next to something” und kann u.a. mit “aneinandergrenzen” oder “in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft” übersetzt werden.

Im Video sieht man einen Dokumentarfilm des US-Verteidigungsministeriums aus dem Jahr 1949 über den Bau dieser Straßenverbindung.

Im heutigen Sheepman wird nach einem Adjektiv gesucht, das man u.a. mit langsam, träge oder auch je nach Zusammenhang mit unpünktlich und verspätet übersetzen kann.

Am Ende des neuesten Spider-Man-Films kommt das Wort ebenfalls vor. Im folgenden Zitat habe ich das gesuchte Wort jedoch ausgeklammert.

Miss Ritter: Mr. Parker, [...] again.

In einem Artikel des englischen Guardian über die sich zuspitzende Lage in Nahost wurde gestern der US-Sicherheitsberater Ben Rhodes wie folgt erwähnt:

“Speaking on board Air Force One en route to Asia, White House national security adviser Ben Rhodes blamed Hamas for the current round of violence, stating that the “precipitating factor” for Israeli air strikes were rockets fired into civilian territories from Gaza.” Quelle: Guardian

Das Verb “to precipitate sth” wird vom OALD definiert als “to make something, especially something bad, happen suddenly or sooner than it should” und kann auf Deutsch entsprechend mit “etw. auslösen” übersetzt werden.

Als Adjektiv kann man “precipitate” u.a. mit übereilt, voreilig oder hastig übersetzen.

Der heutige Vokabeltipp stammt aus der YouTube-Beschreibung eines sehenswerten BBC-Videos:

Das Verb “to scurry” wird vom OALD definiert als “to run with quick short steps” und kann auf Deutsch u.a. mit “trippeln” oder “huschen” übersetzt werden.

Im Zusammenhang mit dem Wahlsieg von US-Präsident Obama titelte CNN gestern:

“Obama wins, but can he move the economy from triage to rehab?” Quelle: CNN

In dem Artikel heißt es weiter:

“Today’s economies (especially the U.S.) are like a patient who has suffered cancer, leukemia and a brain tumor all at the same time. Surgery has removed much of the damage. Chemotherapy continues to be administered. The patient is going to take time to recover. Das Substantiv “triage” [ˈtri:ɑ:ʒ] wird vom OALD definiert als:

“(in a hospital) the process of deciding how seriously ill/sick or injured a person is, so that the most serious cases can be treated first”

Auf Deutsch spricht man in diesem Zusammenhang ebenfalls von Triage.
