Für sein Stück Appalachian Spring erhielt der amerikanische Kompnist Aaron Copland (* 14. November 1900, † 2. Dezember 1990) im Jahr 1945 den Pulitzer-Preis.

Das Wort “spring” hat im Englischen mehrere Bedeutungen. Die bekannteste ist sicherlich Frühling. In dem Gedicht, nachdem das Stück benannt ist, bezieht sich “spring” jedoch auf eine Quelle (“a place where water comes naturally to the surface from under the ground” OALD. Eine weitere Bedeutung von “spring” ist übrigens Feder im Sinne einer Feder aus Metall.
